Getting it right with taxes in Sweden

Notification to the Tax Agency (Skatteverket)

The first thing you should do when you have received a seasonal job through Nordjobb is to make your SINK application.

How to apply for SINK

  1. Apply for SINK through the e-service here: Ansökan om särskild inkomstskatt | Skatteverket (available in Swedish and English)
  2. Information about your employer (Corporate Identity number, address, etc.) can be found in your employment contract or in the email from Nordjobb; contact your employer or us at Nordjobb if you are missing any information.
  3. Make sure to upload a high-resolution image of your identity document; if the image is not good enough, you will be asked to submit a new image, and this will delay the entire process.
  4. When you use the e-service, save your receipt number (kvittensnummer) that will appear on your screen once you have sent in the application! This is necessary for the Swedish Tax Agency to assist you with your case if any delays or other issues arise.
  5. In 2024, new procedures for identity verification were introduced. As a result, you may receive a letter from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) requesting you to visit the nearest tax office in Sweden to confirm your identity. You are not required to visit an office in person to receive your coordination number, but if you are already in Sweden when you receive this letter and are near a Skatteverket office, you can do so to speed up the process.

What does it mean to be taxed according to SINK?
You will pay 22,5% tax (from 1.1.2026) on your entire income for the year and you do not need to file a tax return in Sweden. Once your SINK application is approved, you will automatically receive your coordination number (samordningsnummer).

Please note that your coordination number is valid for five years while the SINK-application must be renewed every year. Even if you start working in the autumn and continue working after the turn of the year, you must submit a new SINK application for the new year.

This kind of taxation is applied when you are staying and working in Sweden for a limited time (under 6 months). If you and your employer agree on a longer working period, you should follow another process (read more under ”Tax Guide”).

Coordination and personal number

You do not apply for a coordination number; you are assigned one when your registration with the Swedish Tax Agency is approved. Your coordination number is valid for five years.

Your employer needs your Coordination number (“samordningsnummer”) and the SINK decision to pay your salary. Send the temporary personal number to your employer as soon as you receive it in order to prevent delays in receiving your salary, or paying more taxes than you are supposed to.

You also need a Swedish coordination number to be able to open a bank account in Sweden.
